Our employee spotlight this month shines on Mia Rahman, our firm’s Senior Accountant. We’re excited to share some highlights from a recent conversation with her:
Q: What inspired you to get involved with health IT consulting?
A: The healthcare industry affects all of us and I wanted the work that I do to contribute in a meaningful way. Healthlink Advisors’ focus is serving clients to improve their healthcare IT and by being a team member here, it makes me feel like I’m contributing to that mission as well and hopefully making a difference to improving healthcare overall.
Q: What do you enjoy the most about health IT consulting?
A: The industry is constantly evolving, which means that we each have a responsibility to stay up to speed on the market to determine if we need to make adjustments to meet client demands and to help them in making these market adjustments as well. This starts with the individual roles we each have internally. While my role is Finance focused and our general finance rules and regulations are standardized, there are always trends that can be seen based on the work that our consultants are doing. Understanding the connection between our industry, the type of work we provide clients ensures that the internal specific finance policies that we do control meet our teams’ needs.
Q: What is something that you would like to achieve?
A: I would like to increase my knowledge about healthcare IT far beyond the finance focus in order to connect it to the business Healthlink Advisors provides. I like reading industry news and listening to our consultant teams discuss the type of work that they are involved with, so I feel like I’m always pushing myself to gain knowledge and awareness. I’m always looking for additional industry news resources.
Q: Looking back, is there advice that you wish you had been given upon entering the industry?
A: Yes, it’s very important to understand the foundational elements of the industry we serve in because while financial standards can be the same, some policies and procedures are specific to the industry and business I’m serving. So, I would share with my younger self that it’s extremely important to take the time to understand the business and operational side of the healthcare IT industry in order to make educated decisions about policies and procedures for the team at Healthlink.
Q: What are you passionate about?
A: I love trying new types of food locally or in a new city. Trying different cuisines is something I’m definitely passionate about. Recently, while visiting New York, I tried oxtail curry and unexpectedly fell in love with it. It’s these types of experiences that inspire me to keep seeking out new places and the food it has to offer. I also recently tried a Michelin-starred Indian restaurant and now have a better understanding of the specialness behind this rating. The presentation and uniqueness of traditional dishes is so exciting to see!
Q: Please share a few random fun facts about yourself.
A: My friends and family tell me that I’m an excellent trivia partner because I love learning about things that are far outside of my Finance background. My adventurer spirit means I am always open to trying new things. One of the coolest things I’ve tried was goat yoga, which is a really fun experience I would recommend. I am excited to try cat yoga next. I love learning about different cultures and enjoy watching international movies. Subtitles are my best friend! I enjoy traveling and was able to visit San Francisco for the first time recently. I loved all of the hills and curvy streets and variety of food that was available. My next visit will be to New Orleans and am looking forward to tasting Creole cuisine!
