A Day of Service at the DC Central Kitchen

A Day of Service at the DC Central Kitchen

On Friday, August 10, Brendan Melanophy, Ralph Navarrete, Vaspaan Patel, Zahid Rathore, Mary Ann Calica, and Afsaneh Kamangar spent the afternoon and evening at the DC Central Kitchen preparing meals to serve to those in need. Our team worked side-by-side with other volunteers and DC Central Kitchen staff preparing meals for the weekend, including shucking corn, baking cornbread, preparing mashed potatoes, assembling trays of food for meal service, and ultimately cleaning and shutting down the kitchen for the night.

We are proud to serve with the DC Central Kitchen whose mission is to use food as a tool to strengthen bodies, empower minds, and build communities. DC Central Kitchen fights hunger differently by training jobless adults for culinary careers and then hiring dozens of graduates to prepare the 3 million meals they provide for homeless shelters, schools, and nonprofits each year.

This was the first of Healthlink Advisors’ upcoming service opportunities as we look to do our part to contribute our time and efforts back into the communities we are fortunate enough to call home!
